Strength. Beauty. Filipina.

From the artist: This is the first personal piece completed by this artist. It was a result of the yearning to represent her Filipino culture in a way that was graceful, delicate, and yet still had the element of strength that so many Filipinas carry within themselves. Coming across an image of a sculpture by Jef Albea, a Filipino artist who was represented at the NY Art Expo in 2023, she was stunned to find that exact combination of strength, grace, and Filipino representation in his sculpture that she was struggling to find on her own. With his permission, she translated his vision using her own watercolor medium and the result is what you see here. This piece has been part exploration of her culture and what it means for her trying to find it, but also part of her story in that it represents her experiences and all the strong women in her family lineage.
